I'm working on a time-travel fic, so naturally my mind has turned to thoughts of ~~Rome~~ ~~Spring~~ other time-travel fics. Because what better way to procrastinate? It’s a trope that Buffyverse fic writers have thoroughly explored to good effect. That makes it tough to choose! I'll probably have a whole other list or two, perhaps one just for Our Heroes Go Back in Time: To War! But first off: Classic Buffyverse Time travel! Things I Am Enjoying

So many good things!

1. herself_nyc is writing Buffy fic again! She is continuing her Bittersweets opus in the scary story Mr. Grieves and the Vengeance Girl. Give it a look and let her know what you think! (Hint to reader: catch up with previously posted part of this story here (LJ) or here (AO3), and when Spike reveals his identity to servant girl Kate switch to the new post here.

2. The Headline Awards have been announced! There are several old favorites among the winners in the Giles categories, but also, even better, some I haven't read before! I know what I'll be doing this weekend!

3. The Buffy Rewatch at fantas_magoria is loads of fun! Check it out!

Fics, Recs, Awards, and Stuff. No Nonsense.

Hey everybody! I am poking my head out of my burrow with some fandom news! No Rest for the Wicked Awards has announced the winners of Round 11 and several of my f-listies are on the list! Congratulations, all you talented people! I got this little beauty:

It's very cool and warm and fuzzy, but the main thing is to keep on ficcing, amirite? There is no better proof of this than an excellent new story, posted just today by one of the winners, beer_good_foamy . Go, read The Queen, The Soldier as soon as you possibly can. No need to thank me.

Also, sb_fag_ends is inspiring an outpouring of seasonal Poe-themed Spuffy, and if you are inclined to enjoy such things you won't be disappointed. Because there are so many stories going up, comments are few, so if you find something you like, let the author know! I've put up a few things, and have a few more in the pipeline, although this week is really far too busy in real life for me to do as much as I'd like. All are on the lighter side, but that is apparently how I'm rolling nowadays. Here they are:

Rare Women Unveiled!

I contributed something, which I suspect is of limited appeal due to super small fandom, although it is a crossover with BtVS, so who knows? You can read it at AO3, but for consistency's sake, I'm also including it in my journals. I've written another crossover with these fandoms, Two Faces Have I, which I think might be more successful, since it uses the POV of the Buffyverse character we know, while this one uses the POV of the character that is outside the 'verse.

'Tis very nearly the season!

I may be getting a bit excited about the holidays this year! Some of you look forward to Yuletide, but as it focuses on small fandoms and I am pretty much still all about the Buffyverse, it doesn't tempt me much. However! It looks like there could be an alterna-Yuletide that would include infrequently written Buffyverse women, and that sounds perfectly festive to me! Follow along at rarewomen!

It's nearly time to sign up for noel_of_spike, but you can weigh in with your preferences now. I also just discovered another seasonal gem, btvs_santa, which is a Secret Santa fan work exchange community. Go! Make a wish!

But the fun doesn't stop at year's end! winter_of_faith is accepting sign-ups right now for dates through January, and a Wishverse ficathon is being planned for late winter/early spring over at wishverse_fic.

After a fallow summer, it looks like I might actually finish off this year and start the next awash in fic! What could be more jolly?

I did a fic for the sb_fag_ends "Something Wicked" challenge. I'm hoping to get another one in tonight, but it's a holiday, so who knows?

I did a very silly (but not classy) Spike/Sally fumetti for littlespikes, 'cos we absolutely need more BtVS/Nightmare Before Christmas crossover material, even if it's no good. Right?

I also am thrilled to report that some kind person nominated a few of my stories for Round 25 of the Sunnydale Memorial Fanfiction Awards! Specifically, the Mr. Gordo/Miss Edith story No Regrets has been nominated in the Comedy and Unconventional Pairings categories, and Tales of the Cold 'n' Tall Creamery — short stories about Jhiera, princess of Oden Tal, her "girls" and their AU move to Sunnydale — has been nominated in the Series category, which I think is pretty funny. I guess I ought to add a few chapters...

Newish Spuffy writer puddinhead (aka thepuddinhead) has started posting the sequel to Yours, William and it is already a gripping, ripping yarn! If you, like me, have a big ol' yen for historical time-travel fic that has fun characterizations, a little action, a little sex, and a lot of culture-clash, well, you should be reading along. Ms. P is a history teacher, but clearly the kind that knows how to make the dusty olden days come alive on the page.

If you want to jump right in, the premise of Yours, William is that post-series Buffy asks to go back in time to pre-vampire William, and ends up in the body of one of his household staff, without slayer powers, but with all her memories intact. Wackiness ensues, romance blooms, someone finds his inner badass a little earlier than anticipated, obstacles are faced and overcome, and when the time comes, Buffy decides to do the honorable thing. My Elizabeth begins with the happy couple boarding a boat for their new life in America, but something nasty awaits them in the cargo hold. In just three chapters (so far) there are old enemies, new enemies, new friends, the challenges of Victorian-era ocean travel and etiquette, and it looks like things are going to take a major turn soon. *anticipates* The prose is lean, the vision clear, and it's a heckuva lot of fun.

The elephant in the room is unbridled_b's Forward to Time Past, against which all Buffy/William stories must inevitably be compared — and for good reason. Repeat after me: gold standard! Rest assured, puddinhead 's series is entirely different in scope and tone, largely because the Buffy we meet is in a much better place emotionally, and has chosen this journey for specific reasons, mindful that Spike was capable of selfless and noble action. For me, it's really interesting to see how much of a difference that makes.

You should also all be reading msjane's award-winning Time's Fool, a 40-years-in-the-future fic that just keeps getting better.

And now, a plea for HTML help! How do you put in both DW and LJ "user name links" in the same post? I've seen it happen in other people's posts, but the code is eluding me! I'd like to know before my seasonal_spuffy posting day. *puppy eyes* Thanks, Snick!

Am I too late for joy?

Piffle! It's never too late! Except when it is. *ponders*

I've been home with a sick kid for a few days, but there's been plenty of joy, and some of it from fandom! Can I get a woo and a hoo? 'Cos you guys are great!

First thing to celebrate is the announcement of the winners in Round Nine of the Running with Scissors Awards! There's some great stuff on the list, including a few things by some friends who happen to be excellent writers. So congratulations to brutti_ma_buoni, duh_i_read, rahirah, and moscow_watcher among others! Well done, all. My silly Giles piece won something, too! Whee! The mods haven't released the pretties yet, only the list of winners, but those are always intensely gorgeous and it just gives us something to look forward to, right?

Also, the buffyversetop5 recommendation site has been going full steam, and I've been viewing and reading tons of stuff that I missed. Which admittedly slows down the writing a bit, but I'm getting a lot out of it. Also, I just happened to luck out and make the 1,000th rec post to the site, which led to fabulous prizes! Virtual confetti, champagne, as well as a couple of months of paid LJ time, and a couple of years worth of extra icons! It brought a joyful tear to my eye, let me tell you! Thank you to the very generous mods, and thanks to all the people who are giving us such great recs! Especially those that are reccing my stories, of course. ;-} I've got a few lists still to post over there, though the more I delay, the more of my favorites get ~~picked off~~ highlighted by listmakers more fleet than I. Maybe I won't have to post anything more because all the good stuff will have already been recc'ed? Ha! Never happen. We could definitely use more pre-series lists, which I'm having trouble compiling from my foggy memory bank. Any suggestions?
