Whaddyaknow? Yesterday was my 9th fanniversary! And herself_nyc's birthday, not entirely coincidentally. She encouraged me to jump into this fic thing, way back when, and here I still am.

Things in RL have been super busy, so my online life has been curtailed a bit, although I'm still reading most every day. I did start a new WIP for the most recent round of seasonal_spuffy , which means I've now got 3 WIPs over there, about which I should really do something. Anyway, here's where that is:

Making It Up

I've decided I'm going to WriterConUK next month!

It will be my very first trip to the UK, and I'm all atwitter. I've been asking all my ex-pat friends what I should do while I'm there. One said I should order a drink called a “shandy” since I am a light drinker, and another mentioned Scotch Egg, because bacon, but I am not convinced.

Now I ask you! I'll be in Edinburgh, Bath, and London, when I'm not in Coventry, Chester, and Liverpool. Give me your suggestions about things to see and do, to eat or not eat, and places to stay. I'm thinking near Paddington*/Kensington while in London, but I could be convinced otherwise.

I was notified that I've been nominated for a No Rest for the Wicked Awards, but I have no idea for which story or in what category, so it's mysterious AND exciting!

Philosophy vs. Frivolity

So I've been having thoughts, as one does, about the nature of good and evil as seen through the lens of BtVS. Especially, you know: Spike. There are always posts and discussion about it, this one being most recent, and it's all really interesting. I keep waiting for people to convince me that Spike is capital "E" evil, rather than thoughtlessly destructive (among other things). It comes down to how a person defines evil, which is surprisingly difficult to define. It's sort of like love that way.

But now I'm thinking that maybe the quote above is closer to my philosophy of Spike than anything particularly deep. Tsk.

Fics, Recs, Awards, and Stuff. No Nonsense.

Hey everybody! I am poking my head out of my burrow with some fandom news! No Rest for the Wicked Awards has announced the winners of Round 11 and several of my f-listies are on the list! Congratulations, all you talented people! I got this little beauty:

It's very cool and warm and fuzzy, but the main thing is to keep on ficcing, amirite? There is no better proof of this than an excellent new story, posted just today by one of the winners, beer_good_foamy . Go, read The Queen, The Soldier as soon as you possibly can. No need to thank me.

Also, sb_fag_ends is inspiring an outpouring of seasonal Poe-themed Spuffy, and if you are inclined to enjoy such things you won't be disappointed. Because there are so many stories going up, comments are few, so if you find something you like, let the author know! I've put up a few things, and have a few more in the pipeline, although this week is really far too busy in real life for me to do as much as I'd like. This week is the start of her school's run of SPAMALOT, which is sure to be silly. College acceptances are coming in. Taxes are done. Work is busy. I did housework last weekend and got a blister. Dear Old Dad is coming for a visit next week. I'm hoping to be around these parts a bit more after the next couple of weeks. Woo! Oh, except for the trip to NYC in a month! Double woo!

I apparently can't write AT ALL unless there is a deadline, and even then, the deadline gets muffed. My posting date was the 8th, which I told myself could be pushed to the Free-For-All Day on the 10th, but then lobbied the mods to extend into yet another day, since it was a holiday, after all. I am ridiculous. The beginnings of the story stem from a prompt at sb_fag_ends over a year ago, making it eligible for sb_ashtray, and it was on my letsgetitdone list. Does that mean it's a three-fer?

In trying to post to seasonal_spuffy on Dreamwidth, I discovered that I can no longer post to communities on Dreamwidth, because my email notifications are screwed up over there and attempts at fixing them have left me locked out of various functions. I guess it's good that seasonal_spuffy moved back to LJ. I can't be the only person with these issues, can I?

Summary: When the Slayer's family moves house in her second year of college, a new neighbor swiftly becomes all she wants for Christmas. His wants are decidedly more complicated.

Inspiration for this came from lutamira, who put up a list of tropes and asked for characters and pairings to go with them. I decided I wanted to see Spike and Buffy in a "next door neighbor AU", while retaining their vamp/slayer natures. One shower later, I had what I deemed to be a workable idea. Yesterday was my day at noel_of_spike! I had Big Plans, but the month of December has been a flat-out run. I made 60 dozen cookies, had a root canal, a sick husband, a sick kid (not at the same time) and the second highest-grossing month of the year for my business. Among other things. Specifically, the Mr. Gordo/Miss Edith story No Regrets has been nominated in the Comedy and Unconventional Pairings categories, and Tales of the Cold 'n' Tall Creamery — short stories about Jhiera, princess of Oden Tal, her "girls" and their AU move to Sunnydale — has been nominated in the Series category, which I think is pretty funny. I guess I ought to add a few chapters...
