Oh yeah, those people are nuts! MiAmor couldn't read the story without shivering, Southern California boy that he is. And: I liked the idea of Spike and Dru going after people with more money than sense. Heh.
Although a part of me (from a more northern latitude) admires the ability of us humans to create art out of extreme conditions, which was something I thought would also appeal to Spike. He's always been interested in technology and other man-made things, so this seemed like a natural for a footloose vamp of leisure.
