I always thought that Joss and crew used "eat" to convey a certain finality that "drink" doesn't quite have. And, also, for double entendre purposes. Who can blame 'em? In any case, it's the "playing with their food" business that I try to stay away from, in my fic. Some people really like that, though. *shrugs*
