For most people, amnesia is an interesting fic trope, and that's a close as they'll ever get. But I was knocked on the head as a kid (car crash) and lost a few months, though it all came back (afaik) over the course of a few days. Then this. The person who it happens to will never get the memories of what happened back, because their brain just can't make memories during the episode. The doctors kept saying that everything would be back to normal in 24-48 hours, but it was really more like 2 months until equilibrium was fully restored. Brains are indeed so weird.
But hey! There's only a 15% chance of it happening again! Woo hoo?
