This was my first fic, and I think the motivation was that I didn't think Dru would've thrown out 118 years with Spike because of one tiny apocalypse-ending. So, Spike needed to have done more to help Buffy, than to hold off Angel for a few minutes. This is what came up.
I'm pleased you like the characterizations. It's a hard time for all of them, it's true. But it does lay the groundwork for a magnificent obsession romance!
