rebcake: spike air kiss (tease)
[personal profile] rebcake
I succumbed to [livejournal.com profile] clawofcat's offer. So, now I must make my dubious skills available for your pleasure.

The first FIVE people to comment in this post get to request a drabble of any pairing/characters (from Buffy). If you'd rather have a limerick than a drabble, that'll work. It would be swell if, in return, those five people post this in their journals, and offer drabbles or icons or something. Haiku? You get the drift. You don't have to, though. Anyway, requests of rare-ish characters would be especially fun for me to do, but it's not required.

In other news, I got a pretty pretty for my little awards show fic:

They've gone to monthly voting over at [livejournal.com profile] still_grrr, so it's a slightly larger pool these days. I was really surprised to get this, especially as I was pretty sure that [livejournal.com profile] deird1 was going to sweep the field in February! Her absolutely brilliant fic, Bureaucracy, finished out of the money, through some weird fluke, but that's no reason not to immediately run over to her journal and read it now.
Linkety link to "Bureaucracy"!

Things have been hopping for me on LJ. My [livejournal.com profile] seasonal_spuffy day went by, and not without comment, thank you all very much! ETA: I just found out that With This Ring is nominated in Round 9 of the Rogue Poet Awards!

It's in both the Short and Lighthearted categories. Lighthearted? I inserted actual angst, I'm sure I did. Once or twice, anyway. Once again, thank you to whichever of you did this! I'm so excited.

This weekend, I've got a [livejournal.com profile] seasonal_sd (Spike/Dru) post to do, but have I started? No, I have not. I guess it'll be another historical, because they're fun to do. Does anybody know of anything really cool that happened in the late 19th century or the 20th century? Anyone?

Congrats on the award love! *squish*

I would like a trio drabble. Maybe pre- season 6. While they were first stumbling upon the ideas for world domination and getting girls lol.

*hugs*

Oh, I already posted this meme...

Kissing? Eww. (I am channeling my live-in 13 year old.)

Let me clarify, though. When you say "sth" do you mean Season 5 Angel/Fred? I'm kinda blurry on the other Angel seasons, alas.

Could I have a Spike/Fred? (Hee, no surprise there. ;D )

Mucho congratulations on your nominations and win!

Does anybody know of anything really cool that happened in the late 19th century or the 20th century? Anyone?

Hmm..lemme chew on it a spell.

Some cool late 19th century - 20th century happenings for Spike and Dru:

1. Their first ride in an automobile.

2. Watching a "flicker" in the silent movie era, and perhaps Dru's reaction to on-screen Lillian Gish or Theda Bara or...hee, Nosferatu!

3. 1965: Stalking Twiggy through Carnaby Street and deciding at the last minute that she's too tiny to be a proper meal.

Those are nifty ideas. I've read a really spectacular "first car ride" fic, for which I now can't remember title, author, or website. *sigh* I've got to do better with bookmarks!

Found it! Through the magic of [livejournal.com profile] seeking_spike! It's by [livejournal.com profile] shadowlass and here's the addy:

I think there might be another one along these lines, as well. *sigh* So much good fic, so little time.

Wow, thanks so much for that link! What a great story; I'd never seen it before. :D Especially loved these lines:

as the yokels gawked at things they’d never seen before, like front teeth and shoes.

and

“You almost hit that old lady stepping into the street,” Drusilla accused, daintily tucking her hair behind her ears. Since the car was open-air it whipped right out again, but she didn’t seem to notice. “Go back and try again!”

LMAO! PERFECT Dru.

Oh, nice! They'd just love Mussolini's meat hook, me thinks.

Hmmm. Women's suffrage? Do vampires vote?

How about something (topically) Depression based? All those displaced persons in so many areas of the world, what a food opportunity.

1900 World's Fair in Paris is just awesome - first escalators, talking films, art nouveau, diesel engines, masses of people just begging to be eaten (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1900_World%27s_Fair) - it's a minor obsession of mine since I saw a brilliant exhibition on the art section. Honestly I think they were in China at this point, but what the heck, I share the fixation freely.

Heheh. Great minds and all that. I went to a "Tiffany/Fabergé/Lalique at the 1900 World's Fair" exhibit last week, and I kept seeing Spike and Dru everywhere! The creepiness of the Art Nouveau had previously eluded me, until I saw all the bats and snakes and insects that these artists did, alongside all the birds and angels and pretty eggs. And flowers. I forget how exquisitely morbid flowers can be.

Thanks for the tip!

Congratulations on your pretties and your noms! Woohoo! I love that little Lux tribute.

I haven't read much of [livejournal.com profile] deird1's stuff, so I'm really going to have to remedy that this summer. One more week of work and I'm freeee!

I keep missing the boat on the drabble meme, but it's prolly just as well since I'm about to go into self-imposed seasonal_spuffy exile. Wish me the luck.

Happy almost-Friday to you, friend.

Thanks. Good luck! Ahhhh, seasonal_spuffy. It's, like, all hard and stuff. But then you have something that you made with your own brain and keyboard, and the accolades roll in, and it's magical. What I'm trying to say is that it'll be worth the pain. Plus, bonus: you make the rest of us happy, too.
