rebcake: Spike & Dru: Good games for everyone (btvs spru good games)
New today! Another chapter of my set in San Francisco story/travelogue! NOT comics compliant.

Title: Fire in the Soul (3/?)
Author: Rebcake
Rating: PG13
Word count: 4150
Pairing: Spike/Buffy, but also a bit Dru-ish
A/N: Beta’d by [personal profile] snickfic, and reviewed by MiAmor. Some photos contained herein are copyrighted as noted.
Summary: A few years after Sunnydale’s spectacular demise, Buffy and her crew are getting on with their lives in San Francisco. A not entirely unwelcome blast from her past (Spike! It's Spike!) blows into town, but he’s brought more than the generally allowable amount of baggage with him.

Previously:
Chapter 1 on LJ / Chapter 1 on DW — In which a "chance" encounter leads to strong language and less-than-adult behavior. Also: animal magnetism.
Chapter 2a on LJ / Chapter 2a on DW — In which Dawn makes her feelings known and Buffy tries not to.
Chapter 2bc on LJ / Chapter 2bc on DW— In which Buffy gets on with her Sunday, which naturally ends up being weird.

New:
Chapter 3 — In which reports are made, scents are smelled, and sights are seen, pleasant and otherwise. Click here to read on LJ.

It turned out the earthquake wasn’t that big a deal... )

rebcake: Buffy, pretty slayer (btvs buffy slayer)
I've got a few more chapters of my story/travelogue for [community profile] seasonal_spuffy today! Set in San Francisco, but NOT comics compliant.

Title: Fire in the Soul (2bc/?)
Author: Rebcake
Rating: PG13
Word count: 4100
Warnings: A bit Dru-ish
A/N: Beta’d by [personal profile] snickfic, except for a section added later, which was reviewed by MiAmor. Some photos contained herein are copyrighted as noted.

In the continuation of Chapter 2, Buffy gets on with her Sunday, which naturally ends up being weird... )

rebcake: Spike: Punk is undead (btvs spike punk)
[personal profile] snickfic  is hosting this fun thing:

If you click on the graphic above, you can still go make cracky prompts! Or, you can go to the Masterlist and just read All The Crack. All of it.

It finally got me to break out of my Spike/Dru/Buffy epic-brain and post a little fic. Woo hoo! However, I'm not linking directly to my story there, because there are typos. *hangs head* You can't edit commentfic once somebody has commented on it, alas. Who knew? However, if you want to read it, there's an (hopefully) error-free version at still_grrr:

Title: Battle's End
Author: Rebcake
Rating: PG13 (for a single naughty word)
Word Count: 190
Characters: Spike, Nikki Wood
Summary: Nikki fights Spike to a standstill — and a deal is struck.

The vampire's head was lolling against the floor...

*Heh. Does anybody get the Guild joke in the post title? Just me then?

rebcake: Spike & Buffy: happy under the carpet (btvs spuffy_carpet)
I'm holding off on making any decisions about the Doctor Who premiere until I see part 2. Except that River Song is still very yummy. That's a gimme.

Sunday was my [community profile] seasonal_spuffy day! Hooray! Hooray! I posted two stories and none of them were in limerick form! Success! However, one of the stories is the first chapter in a longer fic. This is a) bad, because it's not finished, and b) good, because there's all kinds of twisty weirdness, still to be resolved. Who doesn't like that?

Both are set in San Francisco, My Fair City. The first is a fluffy one-shot — S8 comics compliant, but NOT comics dependent:

Title: Boots to the Fire (Escape)
Author: Rebcake
Rating: PG13
Word count: 2350
Summary: It wasn’t until Buffy was living and slaying in San Francisco that her fascination with black motorcycle boots became an actual problem.

You can also read it on Dreamwidth here.

The second story is not at all fluffy. However, since it's me, you know it's got its moments of levity. NOT comics compliant:

Title: Fire in the Soul (1/?)
Author: Rebcake
Rating: PG13, this chapter
Word count: 4400
Warnings: A bit Dru-ish
Summary: A few years after Sunnydale’s spectacular demise, Buffy and her crew are getting on with their lives in San Francisco. A not entirely unwelcome blast from her past (Spike! It's Spike!) blows into town, but he’s brought more than the generally allowable amount of baggage with him.

There were advantages and disadvantages to vampire slaying in San Francisco.

You can also read it on Dreamwidth here.

Clearly, titles are not my forté, and it seems to be getting worse. Also, there were formatting difficulties, but I think they're all fixed now. Please let me know if you see something weird, misspelled, or otherwise off. Happy last week of April!

rebcake: Spike & Dru: Good games for everyone (btvs spru good games)
I did another fic! I was unable to resist the genfic_minis' minor female characters challenge and now the world has just a little bit more Harmony!

Title: Haven’t Seen Your Face For A While
Author[info]rebcake
Word count: 1175
Rating: PG
Characters: Harmony for [info]brutti_ma_buoni, with bonus Jonathan and Spike.
Summary: Harmony reflects on her lack of reflection circa Superstar.

Follow the link for fic and prompt details:
Dying was the scariest thing to ever happen to her, and that included the time Jonathan sang to her at her Sweet Sixteen...

Also, my fluffy Skip/D'Hoffryn story, The Gay Agenda (or, Happy Anniversary) has been nominated in a few categories at [community profile] the_hellmouth_awards , a new award site that spotlights rare pairings in the Buffyverse. Go check them out and don't be shy about nominating any of your favorites, old or new. Just click on the pretty to see all the nominees:

Thanks, kind nominator(s)! I'm especially happy to be represented in the "Unbelievably Believable" category. I mean, isn't that what this writing lark is all about?

rebcake: dalek wearing santa hat (christmas)
Yesterday was my noel_of_spike posting day, so naturally I've been busy writing Christmas fic about...Dollhouse? Thanks muse. Thanks a lot. I suspect it's because I made a blanket statement that I didn't think I'd ever write in any fandom but Buffy. It's such a contrarian muse. (Little bitch.)

It all worked out, though, so I've got two new seasonal fics to share with you!

Title: The Gift of the Techno-Magi
Author: Rebcake
Rating: PG13
Word Count: 875
Characters: Joel Mynor of “Bouncy the Rat” fame, Adelle DeWitt
A/N: A bit of background for the Dollhouse episode Man on the Street.

Joel Mynor had more or less got used to being a rich widower...

Title: Yule Be Sorry (The Great Hunt of 1998)
Author: Rebcake
Rating: PG13
Word Count: 1,200
Characters: Spike, Drusilla, and the Chaos Demon

Dru was a good Catholic girl, but traveling around in the 1960s and ‘70s had made her curious about alternative spirituality and other such rot...

Caveat: neither of the above are especially cheerful. I blame my minor cold, because it couldn't be my evil brain, could it?

Wasn't the solstice/full moon/lunar eclipse neat? You don't stay up that late? People! It's been almost 400 years since the last time! Tsk.

In other Yule news, I have made 30 dozen pecan cookies, and a batch of star-shaped shortbread for a favorite kid with severe nut allergies. Today, I am looking at making another 20 dozen cookies, hitting the post office (won't that be fun?), wrapping gifts and packing up to leave for glamorous Oxnard tomorrow for a long Xmas weekend with my delightful in-laws. Or staying in bed with a box of tissues.

rebcake: Giles reads distasteful fanfic volume (btvs giles reads fanfic)
I've been a busy little fic beaver (no cracks), but I've been remiss in linking things up here. So let me remedy that right now!

Four stories (never before linked from this journal) below the cut... )
rebcake: Spike & Buffy: clasped hands catch fire (btvs spuffy_burning_hands)
Yes, I know it's comics Wednesday, but I haven't anything to say as I've not read it yet and I'm sorta kinda trying to stay unspoiled for once. Give me a couple of hours and I'll be up to speed. In the meantime, I bring fic!

Yesterday was my seasonal_spuffy posting day, and I even posted well before midnight! Victory!

Title: Feels Like Heaven
Author: Rebcake
Rating: PG13 for Spike’s language.
Word Count: 4,200
Summary: Buffy’s not in a good place. Dawn suspects Spike can help.
Warnings: Angsty angst.
A/N: This is a post-NFA fic in which the events of the S8 comics are mentioned, but they didn’t actually happen. Clear? Okay then!

Dawn met Spike at the reception area. “You look like crap...”

I also squeaked by and posted a new story on Halloween for Monster Month at sb_fag_ends, a community for short Spike/Buffy fic and art.

Title: Mystery Date
Author: Rebcake
Rating: PG13
Word Count: 700
Prompt: Werewolves vs. Vampires
Summary: Wherein Buffy and Willow discuss their man troubles. Set post-Something Blue but before Willow gets heavy with Tara. Another Season 4 Chocolate Therapy interlude.

"I know it’s the Hellmouth, but we’re 0-for-3 here! Our track record with apocalypses is hotter than with guys..."

The above story may contain a few more sports metaphors than I would normally use, because of my home team being in the World Series! Which they handily won on Monday, btw. In case you missed it. San Francisco! Woot! Anyway, madness ensued, I ate too much Halloween candy, and now I have palpitations. Or maybe those are because of election day? Which, once again: San Francisco: Woot! Many, many other places: bummer.

The other fic-related item is that my funny little Lysistrata-inspired story The Lioness on the Cheese Grater (Giles), was nominated for a couple of Running With Scissors Awards! It is indeed an honor. Thanks, kindly nominator!

rebcake: spike air kiss (goodgames)
Title: One Good Date
Author: Rebcake
Rating: PG-13
Word Count: 1400
Pairing: Spike/Dru
Summary: A small interlude in the continuing adventures of Spike and Drusilla in mid-century America. In this installment, Drusilla insists that they visit what Spike believes to be “the sappiest place on earth”. Will he survive with his dignity intact?
Warnings: Disneyness
A/N: Written for the May 2009 [livejournal.com profile] seasonal_sd. Can be seen as a prequel/sequel to my drabble Home Sweet Home, but you need not read it for this to make sense.

It was impossible to not be aware of the latest, greatest attraction in North America )
rebcake: spike air kiss (biteyourtongue)
Here's some more [livejournal.com profile] seasonal_spuffy silliness.

Author: Rebcake
Rating: R-ish
Word Count: We ought to be counting syllables, but never mind
Summary: Just a few naughty limericks to meet the minimum "April is Poetry Month" requirement:

C'mon a Spike and Buffy's house...

rebcake: spike air kiss (afterglow)
I just did my [livejournal.com profile] seasonal_spuffy post. Whew! With hours to spare, even.

Title: With This Ring
Author: Rebcake
Rating: PG-13, for minor cussin’
Word Count: 4400
Pairing: Spike/Buffy (just as you might suspect for a comm called [livejournal.com profile] seasonal_spuffy)
Summary: Seeking every possible advantage in the battle against the First, Buffy makes a minor wardrobe adjustment before heading into the Hellmouth. Will it make any difference?
Warnings: Ring!Fic
A/N: This is an old school “what if” fic. Dialog and action liberally stolen borrowed from the battle scene in Chosen. Spoilers up through Chosen and the first bit of Angel Season 5. Also, I maniped my own banner! Next, I’m going to make my own soap!

Go there to check it out!

If, you know, you're interested in that sort of thing.

That is all.

Rating: PG
Word Count: 508
Characters: Spike, Dawn

rebcake: spike air kiss (peckish)
Title: Up With Chocolate!
Author: Rebcake
Word Count: 923
Rating: PG13
Pairing: Spike/Illyria (sort of)
Summary: While on a mission, Spike introduces Illyria to a new taste sensation.
Set during Angel Season 5.
Also posted at [livejournal.com profile] nekid_spike for the nekid_colour (chocolate) prompt and at [livejournal.com profile] still_grrr for Prompt 103: Down With Love.

“Have at, Highness.” )
rebcake: spike air kiss (lighter)
First I want to wish Happy Birthday! Good Health! Happiness! to [livejournal.com profile] sockmonkeyhere, whose birthday it might not be, since the little minx doesn't post that particular tidbit anymore. I also want to take this opportunity to beg her, again, to give us more In Dreams. Chapter 11 just won't leave my head, what with the the Willow jumping to an Angel/Oz conclusion, and Angel clumsily hacking out a "miss ya" e-mail to Nina. (I recc'ed it at [livejournal.com profile] buffyversetop5, and I'd do it again, in a heartbeat.) It's great stuff, Socky! We haven't forgotten!

Second, is anybody else having the weird LJ userpic swap? A couple of times, I've had userpics just turn into something else. For instance, earlier this week, my homemade Spike/Dru icon turned into Ellen DeGeneres. Ellen is a fine entertainer and all, but I DON'T HAVE ANY OF HER ICONS! The first time it happened, I ended up with little collegiate cartoons of beer, instead of my usual cakes and Spike, so I changed my password. But then it happened again, and now I'm feeling tech challenged. How does this dad-blamed thing work?

Third, I'm a little nervous about posting this fic, as it didn't go where I intended. Not the era, not the style, not the content. It was supposed to be a 100-word drabble about lighting a cigarette. However, I am sick of not posting anything, so I'm gonna chance it. I'm just not sure if anybody will think it's interesting. It's another historical, but hardly what you'd call ancient history. If you disagree with that assessment, may I just say: Hey! Watch it!

Feedback appreciated.

Title: Voodoo Chile
Author: Rebcake
Rating: PG
Word Count: 1069
Characters/Pairing: Spike/Dru, Historical Real People
Warnings: History, but no song!fic!
Summary: Woodstock was only part of the story...

Title: Tipperary
Author: Rebcake
Rating: PG
Word Count: 890
Characters: Spike and Drusilla
Warnings: War, history
Summary: At loose ends in war time, Spike and Dru decide to check out the big show.

This story is also nominated in Round 24 at the Shades of Grey Awards!

My offering for this round of [livejournal.com profile] seasonal_sd. I had hoped to have it posted by 11 a.m. to honor the armistice of the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month, 90 years ago today. Six hours later, here it is.

Title: Do You Believe?
Author: Rebcake
Word Count: 4102
Rating: PG-13 (some naughty words)
Characters: Buffy, Spike, Willow, Giles, Joyce, Xander
Warnings: Offscreen Buffy/Riley. Pretty much canon. Spoilers through Season 4.
Disclaimer: I disclaim to all and sundry that I didn't invent these people! They're peculiar!
Summary: When Buffy goes off to college, the magic just won't stop. How does she deal with the fallout from each, increasingly troubling, spell? And, why is her love life so screwed up?

A/N: This is my entry in the Fall 2008 round of [livejournal.com profile] seasonal_spuffy. Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] enigmaticblues for making that community happen. Beautiful banner created by the always wonderful [livejournal.com profile] alwaysjbj. Because It's Wrong by [livejournal.com profile] mahaliem very directly inspired my take on the fallout from the body switch (although it's much hotter than mine), and made me think about what else might've fallen between the cracks. This story isn't beta'd, except by MiAmor, who isn't tough enough. This is a fill-in the blank between episodes fic, from Buffy's POV. I'm working on another, rougher version from Spike's POV, but I probably won't get it into shape to post today. Feedback and concrit welcome!

After the first enchantment of her freshman year, Buffy didn’t hate magic. )

It's School Hard Week at [info]fantas_magoria
The prompt was:  When Spike is introduced in this episode, it's clear he's been in Sunnydale before. What's the story?

Route 66 was a hoot. All those intrepid travelers, far from home and all, filled with the spirit of adventure. No sense of limitations. No sense, period.

Motor lodges. Drive-in movies. Car hops. Christ! Car hops were the living end. God bless America.

He mowed down the “Welcome” sign and followed his nose to the soda shop downtown. Darla held court in a booth
, wearing a poodle skirt, surrounded by jocks.

She waved them off when she saw him, “William. Thank you for coming.”

“Don’t know why you think I’ll have any better luck than you, springing ol’ Bat Face.”

My own birthdays lost a bit of their luster after I had a kid and that event became *much more literally* my birth day. You see what I mean? Plus, I was tired for a while there. Coincidence? I think not!

So, my birthday was Thursday, and there was this fantastic thing on LJ to mark the occasion. The most wondrous [livejournal.com profile] mere_ubu made me so happy! 'Cos, really, there's only a couple of activities that make me happier than laughing that hard. Especially when it's so wrong. Most of you have probably already seen the thing. But, if not, ( check it out ). If you dare. Rated 15 (for inappropriate use of kitchen utensils).

P.S. I share my date 'o birth with Mark Hamill, Pedro Almodovar, and my mother-in-law! I kid you not.
